March 2 – 26 | Bronx Arts Alliance – The Bronx Speaks: Our Home Group Exhibition

In an intentionally timely manner, The Bronx Speaks: Our Home opens during New York Armory Arts Week 2016 as working class neighborhoods—located in the Bronx and beyond—are continually being “discovered” as inexpensive real estate opportunities for developers. What is overlooked, however, is the art and culture that has flourished within these areas for decades, and the potential for erasure and displacement.

Curated in two spaces—BronxArtSpace in Mott Haven and Andrew Freedman Home on Grand Concourse—the exhibition is intended to function as a platform for artists to “speak,” amplifying multiple voices and perspectives. The concept of home is interpreted and elucidated through the artist’s eye, revealing the dynamism of the Bronx arts scene that’s happening right here, right now.

About the Bronx Arts Alliance

About Independent Curator, Sarah Corona

Sarah Corona is an independent Art Historian and Curator based in New York. She holds a BA (with honors) in Fine Arts and an MFA (with honors) in Communication and Management of Art at the University of Bologna (Italy). In 2014 she obtained the Certificate for Art and Business at NYU, New York. She is founder of SARAHCROWN, a curatorial project and art management service, and BAG – Bologna Art Galleries. She runs a project room in Brooklyn called ROOMSERVICE, a space for artistic and cultural experimentation devoted to the dissemination of site-specific projects, new media based art works and a critical discourse around the curatorial practice.

She collaborates with and curates for public and private art institutions, non-profits organizations and private galleries both in Europe and New York. She reports and writes for several international art magazines. Sarah Corona coordinated No Longer Empty’s NLE Curatorial Lab in 2013, and is guest lecturer at RU Residence Unlimited in Brooklyn. She is jury member and guest curator of Call4 Robot, a call for artists in the field of digital media and music in Bologna (I), and jury member at Apex Art, New York. She is part of the Exhibition Committee and guest curator of the Bronx Arts Alliance.
