After fifteen months in the making, The BX200 Bronx Visual Artist Directory is live!
Back in the summer of 2013, we wondered what we could do to get more people to discover the wealth of creative talent and energy in our borough. We met many talented and accomplished artists here and concluded that an online directory of visual artists in The Bronx was needed. We hired an amazing web designer, Ivan Dockery of Elemental Marketing, and The Bronx 200 Visual Artist Directory was born.
The BX200 showcases the borough’s visual artists and art organizations in an easy-to-access platform and connects Bronx-based artists to curators, collectors, gallerists, businesses, and other artists worldwide.
There are artists represented in eleven categories of media. On the Home Page you’ll find our first four Featured Artists: Melissa Calderon, a multimedia talent and Andrew Freeman Artist-in- whose recent exhibits include the highly-acclaimed I Found Myself In God at the Schomburg Center in Harlem; and Crash (John Matos), graffiti artist and owner of Wall Works, the borough’s newest art gallery. Also featured are Beatrice Coron, whose cut paper designs adapted in metal adorn several new buildings in Morrisania and Melrose, and whose stained glass windows can be found at the Burke Avenue 2 train station; and Benjamin Petit, an accomplished photojournalist who has worked internationally for a variety of publications, currently working in Syria and Lebanon.
Take a look at our Organizations page where you’ll find links to the many establishments promoting culture in the borough. Explore posts for current events, openings, and exhibits on our News/Blog page. Be sure to check out our first blog posts below, Faces of 3rd Avenue, photographs by Michael Young, followed by a piece from Visiones Culturales founder Yolanda Rodriquez.
Mark your calendar for Wednesday March 25th, from 6-9, for the official launch party at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. We hope to meet you there!
