BENTON C. BAINBRIDGE is a media artist based in the Bronx. Bainbridge designs his own custom systems to create visual performances, interactive installations and other time-based artworks.
Bainbridge’s single-channel works have screened at MoMA, SFMoMA, Lincoln Center, Dallas Video Festival, and Sonic Light (Amsterdam). Bainbridge has performed audiovisuals at Museum of the Moving Image, The Kitchen, EMPAC, Boston Cyberarts, Mercat des les Flors (Barcelona), LUX2006 (Sevilla), Auditorium Parco della Musica (Rome), Wien Moderne, Inventionen (Berlin), Teatro Colón CETC (Buenos Aires). Bainbridge’s interactive artworks have been presented by Everson Museum of Art, International Horticultural Expo (Xi’an), Korean Festival (Seoul), and by Deutsche Bank at Frieze Art Fair. Awards include a Bronx Council on the Arts BRIO and multiple residencies at Experimental Television Center and Signal Culture.
Bainbridge designed video for two Beastie Boys world tours, made analog FX for TV On The Radio’s “Staring at the Sun”, and created Whitney Museum’s best-attended live event with video ensemble The Poool. Bainbridge has been resident media artist of American Museum of Natural History’s “One Step Beyond” since its inception. He teaches “New Forms in Video” at SVA MFA Computer Arts.
