Melanie Gonzalez, born in The Bronx, NY, of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, practices fine photographic arts through displaying printed photographs, making fashion design and wearable art, organizing public art works and photographic sculptures, as well as filmmaking and editing. Her passion for photography stems from an upbringing engaged in music, theater, sculpture and nature all in the heart of New York City. Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art (Photography) from The City College of New York. Her multimedia photography project Discount Saints was funded in 2015-16 in part by an Arts Fund Grant from the Bronx Council on the Arts. In 2019, she was an En Foco Photography Fellow, from 2019-2020 she was an Artist in Residence at ChaShaMa’s Space to Connect, in 2021 was an invited Community Artist-in-Residence at Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 2019, Gonzalez started Suzanna Productions, a photographic and sewing arts agency which celebrates the photographic products, media services, fine prints and wearable clothing from Melanie Gonzalez Art photography and Piedra y Sombra Designs.
