Inspired by religious iconography, gold jewelry, and hair rollers, art photographer & videographer Melanie Gonzalez created the art project Discount Saints. The series of saintly portraits, short video portraits and sculpture installation encompasses her appreciation for classical biblical paintings and her identification with contemporary Black and Latino culture in New York. Discount Saints was completed with special support from the Bronx Council on the Arts, as a 2015 Arts Fund Grant Winner.
