Twenty-seven Artists from both sides of the island have united in this collective exhibition La Lucha: Quisqueya & Haiti, One Island to educate the viewers and ourselves, about the history of the land in which modern day Dominican Republic and Haiti reside. We want to spark a conversation between the two nations that is very much needed.
This exhibition would bring together artists from different stages in their lives and from both sides of the island, in order to celebrate our similarities and our differences as one. La Lucha: Quisqueya & Haiti, One Island wants the community to start thinking about the issue of education, working conditions, and health care on the island in order to see how we can use our resources to change the situation for the better.
La Lucha: Quisqueya & Haiti, One Island would bring both communities together through visual art, spoken word, and musical events presented in collaboration with Haiti Cultural Exchange. The idea is for each artist to tackle issues affecting the island through their choice of medium, whether it is photography, paintings, sculptures, performances, music or fashion. La Lucha: Quisqueya & Haiti, One Island is more than an exhibition; it is a bridge that seeks to connect both cultures through art, music and conversation. Yelaine Rodriguez is the curator in partnership with Haiti Cultural Exchange.
