Ivan Gaete | Video Profile – Breaking 2016
Breaking
2016 (First Configuration, 65 / 73 triangles)
Vellum paper, cassette tape, tulle and thread
Variable dimensions (approx. 6 feet x 8 feet)
A short video documenting the installation of “Breaking, 2016 – First Configuration”
The work was included in Bronx Now, a group exhibition organized by BX200, April 2016 at
Temporary Storage Gallery @ Brooklyn Fire Proof, 119 Ingraham St., Bushwick
Hanged unconventionally in the corner of the gallery, the work is an allegory to Hip Hop and the dance movement born in the Bronx in 1973. Each triangle encapsulates random amounts of music recordings in the form of cassette tape. The bold black lines randomly tangle and move inside the triangles reminding us of the relationship between chaos and order. The work connects music, mathematics, movement and space.
