Winter Show: Culinary Theme

These exhibitions are the last two in our 2015 series presented under the overall theme, “Food Systems: Surroundings and Sensibilities”
In addition to the exhibition of artworks, some artists will be selected to do community “residencies”, i.e. work in the community for a week or so to engage and create your artwork on site.
The exhibitions are taking place in three (pop-up) venues in or around the West Farms section of the Bronx:
Bronx Music Heritage Center, Luis Nines Blvd.
Gustiamo, imported Italian food warehouse, West Farms Rd.
ABC Home & Carpet, Bronx Warehouse, Bronx River Avenue.
Description:
In their art projects the artists will explore the roles and ideas of such topics as the engineering of food, urban farming, food distribution systems, ethnic food and food as culture, as it relates to the overall theme of the show.
For our Fall show, work should relate to the theme of Harvest, which might include farming, crops, reaping, feast, thanksgiving, growing, or other harvest-related themes. For our Winter show, work should relate to the Culinary theme.
The artists will spend time working in our local community and with our partner organizations to devise strategies that creatively address these issues through visual, performance, and social practices and to learn from our residents while educating, engaging and contributing to the larger discussion.
