Beck Memorial Drum Circle and Libation Ceremony – Photography by Michael Young

West Farms, November 11 —– Bronx-based photographer Michael Young was on hand to capture the moment at Justice for Families’ (Bronx chapter) and West Farms Memorial Gardens’ drum circle and libation ceremony this past Veteran’s Day, led by Dr. Drum and Bombayo.

Honoring a Sacred Site and Its History
The recently rediscovered burial ground behind Beck Memorial Presbyterian Church holds the remains of enslaved people whose lives and stories have too often been marginalized or erased. Landmarking this site is essential to ensuring that this sacred land receives the dignity, protection, and recognition it deserves.
