Skowmon Hastanan creates mixed media works relating to Diaspora experiences. In her recent artist-in-residence at Penn Museum, Hastanan re-envisaged concept of time, history and memory. Museum’s archives are represented in a multi-media format performance, Borneo Odyssey. It was included in Philadelphia Fringe Arts Festival and Haiku Conference, with the support of Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, PECO, Penn Museum, the Provost’s Interdisciplinary Seminar Fund and the Penn Art and Culture Initiative. Hastanan received BFA from the School of Visual Arts, and exhibited at various venues including The Bronx Museum, The Drawing Center, Artist’s Space, New Museum, and Brooklyn Museum. She is a recipient of commissions from MTA Arts for Transit, and NYC Percent for Art. Fellowships including Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Italy, Urban Artist Initiative, The Lambent Fellowships, and BRIO/ Bronx Council on the Arts. Her work is in collections of Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Italy, and Davis Museum, MA.
